Why is my concrete tank leaking?

Concrete tanks leak due to rainwater pulling binders out of concrete or plaster to balance pH of the water sitting in the tank. Over many years the internal surface of the tank becomes porous allowing water to contact the steel reinforcing. The steel begins to rust and rust jacks the concrete apart in the process, creating a crack or leak.
